Ask your MP to take action to defend NHS wax removal services.

If you’ve been unable to access ear wax removal on the NHS, call on your local MP to make sure everyone who needs professional wax removal can get it, and to improve advice and guidance on wax removal services.

For most people, ear wax moves out of the ear naturally over time, however for some, such as hearing aid wearers, it builds up and requires professional removal. It is thought that around 2.3 million people require professional ear wax removal every year in the UK.  Some people will need it many times in one year.

Research from RNID in 2022 found that as a result of ear wax build-up, 73% of respondents experienced hearing loss, 37% experienced tinnitus, half experienced earache or discomfort, and a quarter experienced dizziness.  If done incorrectly, this can lead to infection, permanent hearing loss, ear canal or ear drum damage.

We’ve heard from lots of supporters who are still facing difficulties to getting ear wax professionally removed on the NHS.  You have told us that you usually go to your GP for ear wax removal but have been told this is no longer available on the NHS.

The impact of not being able to get NHS ear wax removal has meant you must either seek private ear wax removal, costing up to £100, or attempt to manage your ear wax yourself without clear advice and guidance.

That’s why we need your help to get your local MP to take action.

Join us in calling for an urgent review of ear wax removal services for people who are failing to get the care they need on the NHS.
